30298e62I have a confession.  I am singularly unfaithful.  I have two passions: technology and learning.  I find technology inspiring, amazing and at times frightening.  Learning is a source of joy in my life – ever challenging me to understand what at first seems distant and obtuse.   Through a combination of luck and determination I find myself in a position where my life can revolve around these two passions.  I am a college professor of Information Technology.  As narrow as that may sound at first, it has opened the world to me.    There are very few topics in today’s world untouched by technology.  My job as a teacher is to prepare students to understand technology – its benefits and risks – its amazing feats and its dark side.   In order to teach effectively you  must learn and listen.  As expected, I learn much from my peers and experts but  I am continuously amazed by my students.  They teach me so much that it sometimes makes my head spin.  They have taught me that you must not only know theories and concepts, but you must experience technology in its myriad of forms to fully grasp its impact.  I have learned that you must explore technology from different perspectives as it serves many masters.  I have learned that teaching technology involves traveling down many paths – at once.  And for that I am grateful.
